2003 April Project to create a manga museum is proposed to the city of Kyoto by Kyoto Seika University.
December Basic agreement on cooperation between Kyoto City and Kyoto Seika University reached.
2004 October Launch of the project announced by the mayor of Kyoto City at a regular press conference.
December Discussion forum for the "Kyoto International Manga Museum Project" (tentative name) held.
2005 October Plan to use the site of the former Tatsuike Primary School approved by the Committee on the Use of Former Primary School Sites in Downtown Kyoto.
2006 October Official name and logo for the museum decided.
November Kyoto International Manga Museum opens.
2007 May Visitors to the museum reached 100,000.
2008 January Won the "Kansai Genki Bunkaken New Power Prize 2007" by Agency for Cultural Affairs.
November Visitors to the museum reached 500,000.
2009 September Won a prize for art and cultural section at"Kyoto Souzousha Taisho 2009" by Kyoto prefecture etc.
2010 August Visitors to the museum reached 1,000,000.
2011 July Restaurant renovation.
2012 May Won the 41st special prize by The Japan Cartoonists Association.
2014 August Visitors to the museum reached 2,000,000.
2016 May Won a special prize at "The 20th Tezuka Osamu Cultural Prize".
