Daijiro Morohoshi Original Art Exhibition:
Immature 1970 - 2012

This exchibition introduces about sixty original works (spread over three consecutive parts) by manga artist Daijiro Morohoshi, whose work has many passionate fans, and who is famous for the particular world he depicts in "The Monkey King and Other Chinese Legends".

The works were selected by two people who are both manga artists who draw very unique works too, Yosuke Takahashi, creator of the Mugen shinshi series, and Kazuhiro Fujita, creator of Ushio and Tora, for the last part, the works were selected by Daijiro Morohoshi himself.

Please enjoy the wonder world of Daijiro Morohoshi through the eye of three geniuses.

Content

Centering around a full color illustration that was the cover of the widely acclaimed and recently published collected works of Daijiro Morohoshi, Daijiro Morohoshi, Immature, 1970 - 2012 (Kawadeshobo shinsha publishers), we are exhibiting around sixty works in three consecutive parts.

Talk show with Kazuhiro Fujita

We are hosting a talk show for which we have invited Kazuhiro Fujita, one of people who selected art for the exhibition, as a speaker. This talk show is part one of our Kwaidan (ghost story) Event "Hyakumonogatari Mansion -- Going is easy, going home is scary".
On a stage especially made to tell ghost stories, Kunihiko Tsutsumi, the leading researcher on Kwaidan literature and professor at Kyoto Seika University, will listen to the wonders of Fujita's world.

About Daijiro Morohoshi

Born in 1949, Nagano prefecture. His submission to the magazine "COM" was published in 1970, and this was his debut as a manga artist. In 1974, he won many newcomer awards for his works in the shonen manga magazines "Big Comic" and "Weekly Shonen Jump". He published many more unique works that lingered in the minds of readers because he based them on folklore and ancient history, like the Mud Men series, Dark Myths (Ankoku shinwa), the Yokai Hunter series, the Shiori and Shimiko series, and many more. In 2000 he received the 4th Osamu Tezuka Culture Award Grand Prize for The Monkey King and Other Chinese Legends.

About Yosuke Takahashi

Born in 1956, Nagano prefecture. He debuted as a manga artists in 1977, with Dr. Jehovah's clinic. He gained popularity fast because of his unique worlds, full of weirdness and humor, his diverse drawing techniques, and became known as one of the banner carriers of the New Wave, a group of incredibly talented manga artists that included Katsuhiro Otomo and Fumiko Takano. Later he went on to draw many popular series like the very popular Mugen Shinshi series and Gakko Kaidan.

About Kazuhiro Fujita

Born in 1964, Hokkaido. He debuted as a manga artist in 1988. He started drawing series for "Weekly Shonen Sunday" in 1990, and his work Ushio to Tora, an action manga with yokai, became a big hit that immediately made him one of the most popular manga artists. Since then, he's worked on many more works with unique settings, from shonen manga to action, like Karakuri Circus and Gekko Jorei.
