At the Manga Museum, you can see the process of manga creation first-hand in our "Manga Studio." Watch professional manga artists as they draw manga, starting from the initial pencil sketch.

It's a rare chance to see how manga is really made, from black-and-white images to full color.

Takahashi Reika

Born in Iwate Prefecture, she debuted in 2003 in Bessatsu Margaret magazine with her manga, "Kuuki mitai ni, Saezuri mitai ni" [Like the Air, Like the Birds' Chirping]. Currently, she is publishing comics in Deluxe Margaret and The Margaret magazines.


Noda Yoko

Born in Kyoto. She graduated from the Story Manga Department of Kyoto Seika University. Currently, she teaches courses at the JEUGIA Culture Center and the Kobe Shimbun Bunka Center [Kobe Newspaper Culture Center]. In 2007, she began working on comics for mobile devices with Daicom High-Tech Co., Ltd. (a company based in Dalian, China, that focuses on mobile platform digital entertainment).


Kojima Eiyu

Born in Yamaguchi Prefecture, he won the Shonen Rival Comic Runners-up Prize in Monthly Shonen Rival magazine with his manga, "Eiyu Tengu" [The Heroic Tengu ("Tengu" is a long-nosed goblin with wings in Japanese mythology.)]. He debuted in June of that year with the same manga. Since then, he has been working as a manga artist's assistant while planning his next project with his editor.


Kawakami Daishiro

Born in Kyoto, he won the 2010 "Monthly Comic Newcomer's Award" in Monthly Shonen Rival magazine with his manga, "Yozora Keisatsu" [Policemen of the Night Sky]. He is also working with Nintendo (the video game company) and Hatena (an internet services company) on the animation for a new piece of software they are releasing, called "Ugomemo Theater."

2006/12 Opening of the Manga Studio.
2007/5 Manga Studio members took part in the Shenzhen Cultural Fair in China.
2007/7 Manga Studio members took part in Japan Expo 2007 in France.
2007/11 As a part of the exhibit titled "The World of Anke Feuchtenberger and German Alternative Comics," Anke Feuchtenberger came to the Museum and used one of the galleries as her "studio."
2007/12 During the exhibit titled "A Manga Studio Special: Takahashi Makoto's Studio," Takahashi Makoto came to the Museum to draw illustrations in-person.
2008/3 Opening of the Manga Studio Editor's Desk.
2009/6 Held a "Manga Studio & MM Workshop Special Event," in which Hamano Yuka joined us to draw an original character called "Mame-chan" while guests looked on.
2010/8 Held another "Manga Studio & MM Workshop Special Event," in which Murata Rengi performed in a live painting event.
2011/5 Held "Manga Studio Special Live Drawing Event," in which Yamada Akihiro performed in a live painting event.
