Project History

April 2003 :   Project to create a manga museum is proposed to the city of Kyoto by Kyoto Seika University.
December 2003 :   Basic agreement on cooperation between Kyoto City and Kyoto Seika University reached.
October 2004 :   Launch of the project announced by the mayor of Kyoto City at a regular press conference.
December 2004 :   Discussion forum for the "Kyoto International Manga Museum Project" (tentative name) held.
October 2005 :   Plan to use the site of the former Tatsuike Primary School approved by the Committee on the Use of Former
Primary School Sites in Downtown Kyoto.
October 2006 :   Official name and logo for the museum decided.
November 2006 :   Kyoto International Manga Museum opens.
May 2007 : Visitors to the museum reached 100,000.
November 2007 : Visitors to the museum reached 500,000.
December 2009 : Visitors to the museum reached 800,000.
August 2010 : Visitors to the museum reached 1,000,000.
July 2011 : Restaurant renovation.
