Eshi 100 Part 2
Contemporary Japanese Illustration in Kyoto

Since the ukiyo-e artists of the Edo period, illustrators active in fields as varied as manga, anime and games, and illustrations for novellas have been called "Eshi". The style they have created is part of Japanese popular culture, and is drawing attention around the world.

Here at the Kyoto International Manga Museum, for our special exhibition, we have gathered illustrations by 105 artists who worked with the theme "4 seasons in Japan", and are exhibiting them in the exhibition "Eshi 100 Part 2 - Contemporary Japanese Illustration in Kyoto". It is a powered-up version of the exhibition "Eshi 100 Part 2" held in May of 2012 in Akihabara, Tokyo.

Period

September 28 - December 1, 2013

10 am - 6 pm (Admission to the museum is until 5:30 pm)
Closed on Wednesdays ( If Wednesday is a national holiday, the following Thursday.) , 10/13(Sun)

Admission Fee

Special exhibition fee: 1000 yen for adults, 500 yen for junior and high school students, 100 yen for elementary school students.
*This also covers the entrance fee to the museum (800 yen for adults, 300 yen for junior and high school students, 100 yen for elementary school students).

*Special tickets featuring illustrations by the exhibiting artists will be on sale at the museum from September 7 at the museum.

*You cannot combine this ticket with other discounts or coupons.

*On November 1, admission to the museum is free because as it is Kansai Culture Day. (You need 200 yen for special exhibition except under elementary school students)

Transformation! Portraits MOE!

We have a new special project in our popular portrait corner *million smile*!
Last year, when we held our first "Eshi 100 - Contemporary Japanese illustration in Kyoto" Exhibition, we drew "moe" portraits here, therefore "Portrait Moe" !
Held at the same time as this years "Eshi 100 - Contemporary Japanese illustration in Kyoto part II" Exhibition, this project is back, new and improved, and you can have a portrait drawn in which you will look like a character of a manga or anime !
You can choose from four ways to transform: 1. Kimono, 2. Ninja, 3. High school student, and 4. Cat ears. Make sure to have your very own "Portrait Moe" drawn !

During the exhibition (9/28 - 12/1) on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays, and national holidays

* These number of person will be drawn on one piece of colored paper. 
* However, a General Admission ticket to the Museum is required.

Sale of catalogue and merchandize

During the exhibition we are selling an original catalogue of the art in the exhibition (2500 yen), and merchandize exclusively for the exhibition in Kyoto, like postcards, clear files, and more. You can find it all in the Museum shop, please have a look!

We will have the exhibition "Eshi 100 Part 3 - Contemporary Japanese Illustration in Kyoto" coming December 17 to February 11, 2014.
