Exhibition: "A Duel! Manga Kingdoms! Kochi vs. Tottori"

In recent years, characters from manga and anime have been used around Japan to help rekindle interest in and revitalize several regions. In Kochi and Tottori especially, these efforts have been a great success, and they have received nationwide attention. Now, the Kyoto International Manga Museum is holding an exhibition in which the two prefectures, both Manga Kingdoms, are introduced by means of a "duel".

In Kochi Prefecture, there are many manga related facilities, like the"Yokoyama Ryuichi Memorial Manga Hall", the "Komi City Yanase Takashi Memorial Hall and Anpanman Museum", and the "Kaiyodo Hobby Hall at Shimanto"; moreover, for twenty years now and ongoing, a yearly event called "Manga Koshien" is held, aimed at fostering the talent of high school students who want to become manga artists. Clearly, Kochi is worthy of the title "Manga Kingdom".

But Tottori Prefecture isn't beaten. It boasts the "Mizuki Shigeru Museum", even more famous after in 2010, the life of manga artist Mizuki Shigeru's wife became the topic of a live action series for television, Gegege no nyoubo. Tottori is also the home of the "Aoyama Gosho Hometown Hall"; Mr. Aoyama is the creator of the immensely popular children's manga Detective Conan, and the facility attracts large crowds of tourists every day. In the fall of 2012, Tottori will also be the site of the "International Manga Summit". Therefore, Tottori is at least as worthy of the title "Manga Kingdom" as Kochi.

We would like guests to look at the confrontation between both prefectures and decide which one is most deserving of the title!
